Our Desert campgrounds offer travelers a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the desert environment and experience the authentic nomadic way of life.
Located in the southeastern part of Morocco, the Erg Chebbi desert is home to some of the most iconic dunes in the world.
Desert campgrounds, or bivouacs, are temporary accommodations in the heart of Morocco’s vast deserts, such as the Sahara Desert and the Erg Chebbi dunes. Our Rest Camp Erg Chebbi provides an authentic desert experience.
The location of the desert campground plays a crucial role in determining your overall experience. Whether you prefer vast and untouched landscapes or proximity to nearby attractions, choose a camp that meets your preferences. Some camps are situated deep within the desert, ensuring tranquility and a sense of isolation, while others are closer to villages and offer easier access to amenities. Ours is situated in the dunes, a walking distance from the small village of Tighmirt, combining what other campgrounds don’t offer.
While the allure of the desert lies in its raw beauty, it’s essential to consider the facilities and amenities provided at the camp. We offer electricity, private bathrooms, comfortable bedding, and other essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. If you have specific requirements, such as wheelchair accessibility or dietary preferences, communicate with us in advance to ensure your needs are met.
We offer a unique range of activities and experiences. Explore the options available, from camel trekking and sandboarding to stargazing and traditional music performances. If you’re a thrill-seeker, there are also adventurous activities like quad biking or dune buggy rides. For those seeking relaxation, Rest Camp Erg Chebbi is perfect for activities such as yoga or meditation.
Our History
Hamid is a Berber who has always lived in the desert and created this camp based on his own experience and lifestyle. A nomad from birth, his family later settled in Tighmirt, Merzouga. Hamid spent his childhood camping, and knows better than anyone else what it means to live in a tent. As an adult, he also spent several months in Brazil which made him see life from another perspective.
Later, Maria, a tourist guide from Portugal, joined the project and the camp was refurbished, making it more suitable for the future. The holder of an advanced degree in tourism since 1994, Maria specialised at postgraduate level in tourism information (2003) and in gardens and landscapes (2014). Portuguese is her native language and she also speaks fluent English, German, and Romanian. She first got to know Morocco in early 2020.
This international couple is pleased to receive you in the desert, offering you a range of experiences that you will never forget, like Moroccan pizza workshop, trekking, camel and horse riding, 4×4 off-road driving, sandboard, motocross, bike, quad, and buggy rides, as well as tours in the desert itself.
We are committed to responsible and sustainable tourism. Our Rest Camp prioritizes minimizing their ecological impact, respecting local communities, and supporting local development. We actively work to preserve the environment and engage in eco-friendly practices.
