6-day tour: The Scenic Morocco
Starting From: Marrakesh Airport
This is probably the tour you will choose because the airport in Marrakesh is the busiest one closer to us. This is the tour we recommend to the ones interested in movies, as many of them were recorded in this region, But we also didn’t forget the ones that seek mountains and fresh air.
1st day – Leave Marrakesh heading to the Atlas mountains, where you will go through the Tizi-n-Tischka Pass, the highest road in Morocco. Visit Aït Benhaddou is a must, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, where movies like Game of Thrones and Gladiator were roaded. Continuing to Ouarzazate, the capital of film recording, you will reach the Taourirt Kasbah, a fine example of a fortified residence. Next will be Skoura, with what probably you are expecting to see in Morocco, a palm grove and several kasbahs. El-Kelaa M’Gouna is known for the production of rose essential oil, from which many cosmetic products are made. Finally, you get to Boumalne du Dadès for the overnight.
2nd day – This day, dedicated to visiting river gorges, takes you first to the Dadès Gorge. Here you will see the spot where one of the most-seen photos of roads in Morocco is shot. The departure place to see the next gorge is Tinerhir, with an outdoor street market right in the center. From there the road leads you to the Todra Gorge, where spectacular cliffs are breathtaking till you will get to Tamtattouchte, at it’s end. Continue towards Erfoud, known for the dates, coming from the oasis Tafilalt Palm Grove nearby. Then you will reach Erg Chebbi with two overnights in RESTCAMP ERGCHEBBI.
3rd day – free day to relax, to take part in activities (see the article Magical Desert Dunes for adventures and sportsmen) or to visit the nearby small cities of Merzouga, a tourist center, and Rissani, with the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif nearby, along the oasis of Tafilalt Palm Grove. Overnight in RESTCAMP ERGCHEBBI.
4th day – Heading to the Atlas, pass by Errachidia and you will see another gorge, the Ziz one, where the river with the same name flows. Go to Imilchil, a place for semi-nomadic shepherds and a sumptuous kasbah. Your overnight will be in Beni Mellal, known for its orange and olive groves.
5th day – With two highlights, this day will start with a visit to the Cascades d’Ouzoud, the most beautiful waterfalls in North Africa. After this lush scenery continue to the Aït Bouguemez Valley. With landscape contrasts between arid hilltops and fertile lowlands, is known for its walnuts, shepherd traditions, and granaries, one of them classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. This day will finish in Marrakesh.
6th day – Visit Marrakesh, in case you haven’t done it before the first day of the tour. Admire the minaret of the Koutoubia mosque, feel the energy in the Jemaa El-Fna square, buy in the souks, and hide from the heat in the impressive Majorelle Gardens, among so many other interesting spots that can be visited. In case you already visited Marrakesh, take the opportunity of driving to the Ourika Valley. The shores of the Ourika river invite you for a picnic, either on your own or eating at one of many restaurants and cafes established right along the flowing water. Go upper to Oukaïmeden, a ski resort. No matter if Winter or Summer, always a pleasant escape.
