7 day-tour: South Morocco

Starting from Agadir Airport

Let yourself be surprised by the beauties the region between the two attractions, the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahara desert, has to offer. Agadir is not only a well-known beach but also a starting point for visits to the enchanting southern land.

1st day – Leave Agadir towards the east, till you will get to the well-preserved defensive wall of the city of Taroudannt. Visit Aït Benhaddou is a must, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, where movies like Game of Thrones and Gladiator were roaded. Continuing to Ouarzazate, the capital of film recording, you will reach the Taourirt Kasbah, a fine example of a fortified residence. Overnigt in Ouarzazate. 

2nd day – Leave Ouarzazate towards Skoura, with what probably you are expecting to see in Morocco, a palm grove and several kasbahs. El-Kelaa M’Gouna is known for the production of rose essential oil, from which many cosmetic products are made. Boumalne du Dadès, offering you nice views, is the starting place for you first to see the Dadès Gorge. Here you will see the spot where one of the most-seen photos of roads in Morocco is shot. The departure place to see the next gorge is Tinerhir, with an outdoor street market right in the center. From there the road leads you to the Todra Gorge, where spectacular cliffs are breathtaking. Arrive at Erg Chebbi with two overnights in RESTCAMP ERGCHEBBI.

3rd day – free day to relax, to take part in activities (see the article Magical Desert Dunes for adventures and sportsmen) or to visit the nearby small cities of Merzouga, a tourist center, Erfoud, home for the Dates Festival, and Rissani, with the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Cherif nearby. Between these two last cities, the road goes along the oasis of Tafilalt Palm Grove. Overnight in RESTCAMP ERGCHEBBI.

4th day – departure towards the west, till you will get to Zagora, famous for its juicy and delicious watermelons. Tamegroute is known for its green ceramics, to be founded placed a bit all over this region. At the border to Algeria, there is Mhamid, where one of the largest prehistoric necropolises of the Maghreb, with thousands of graves, is situated. Overnight in Zagora.

5th day – getting to the Anti-Atlas, between Tata and Igherm the road, along rugged mountains, remind us of slices of chocolate cakes. Tafraoute, with its painted granite rocks, is waiting for your visit. Your overnight will be in the walled city of Tiznit

6th day – it’s the day to come back to the Atlantic. Right before Sidi Ifni, Legzira beach is astonishing with its natural arches. The National Park Souss Massa, right along the Atlantic, is a sanctuary for birds, worth to see mainly in Spring and Autum. Overnight in Agadir.

7th day – enjoy the day in Agadir, relaxing at its 9 km long beach, Enjoy the view over the bay from the old kasbah. If you did it already travel north to Taghazoute, smaller and cozier than Agadir, where you can enjoy the beach, eat and drink with a view over the ocean.
